Edward’s Car

Posted by admin

Twilight was one of the most hotly anticipated movies of 2008. Girls specially were waiting with bated breath for the movie mostly because of the love story and of course, because of Edward Cullen, the suave, handsome vampire who falls for the human girl in the story.

Everything about Twilight screams chick flick, and well, that’s actually true. If there is though one thing for guys to look forward to in this movie (because let’s face it, they will probably have to accompany their girlfriends to this one) it’s Edward’s car.

In the movie, Edward drives a Volvo C30, a stunner of a car. It’s a small hatchback with three doors and can seat four people. The front is reminiscent of recent Volvos, like the S40 and the S60, and that’s not exactly a bad thing, as the new Volvos look really good. Where it shines though is out back, with its glass hatch and sexy tail lamps.

Some may say that the C30, because of its diminutive size and cutesy profile is better suited for a girl, but because of its excellent driving dynamics, no guy can complain.

Edward may be a hit for the girls, but for the guys, it is his car that is the hit.

Cars and Seatbelts

The technological world experienced great changes that were mainly brought about by inventions and discoveries. One of the greatest inventions of man is the automobile. It has evolved from form to from, from models to models and have luxuriated the many lives of people across the globe. However, this invention also invited certain things that are quite uninvited: road accidents. Through the years, the rate of road accidents grew. In accordance with this, science has once again brought to the world a feature of automobile that would bring great effect to the way people drive: seatbelts. Indeed, this invention brought about change. The purpose of this invention is to reduce the deaths in the many inevitable road accidents. It sure served its purpose but it also brought with it quite a deadly mentality.

The seatbelt’s purpose is to prevent death and injuries in driving accidents; it undoubtedly served this purpose; and many people knew that it worked. Knowing that they are safe from injury and death with seatbelt, the people, instead of driving carefully in the streets, started to drive more recklessly. As a result of this mentality, the rate of accidents that happened on the streets even rose, although it must be said that the number of people who were injured or who died were decreased.

The invention for cars was quite successful. But then since it produced unwanted bumper counts, it is still considered a defective way of preventing accidents.

Compact Zoom-zoom

The Mazda 3 has always been a bright spot in the compact car segment. It was young and vibrant. Even after five years on the market, its design still looked fresh specially when compared to most of its competitors.

It drives well too. Its handling is more sport-biased than say a Corolla, which makes it a whole lot more fun to drive around. Mazda also put in good engines and a good transmission to make sure that the car not only looked fast but was actually really fast.

All good things must come to an end though, and the Mazda 3’s lifecycle is now over. The good thing about this is that there is already an all-new Mazda 3.

The new second-generation Mazda 3 was unveiled at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show. The exterior of the 3 borrows many design cues from the new Mazda 6, which is a good thing as the new 6 is a stunner. The front is dominated by a new grille that seems as if it’s smiling when looked at directly.

The overall shape and profile of the new car evokes images of the previous generation which means that the 3 still looks like its moving fast even while just standing still.

The new Mazda 3 remains true to the original’s core values: good looks, sporty handling, all in a not-so-expensive package.

BMW’s All-New 7

When the previous generation BMW 7-series first came out several years ago, a lot of people, critics, motorists, and journalists alike were stunned. That’s not to say that they were impressed with the car because they were more shocked than anything at how the car looked like. It had a mixture of concave and convex surfaces, with homogeneous lines all over. And it had the biggest backside this side of J.Lo. Chris Bangle, BMW’s design chief, called it “flame surfacing”. A lot of critics called it ugly. Not that it affected sales, as the said 7-series actually became the best-selling iteration of the car ever.

Now though, BMW have a new 7, and thankfully, the flame surfacing has been kept to a minimum. Introduced in October, the new 7-series features new engines, a new chassis, and more importantly, new sheet metal.

The new 7, as is the case with any flagship, is loaded with all of the latest high-tech gizmos any CEO will ever need. BMW has also refined its iDrive system, making it easier to use (so people can actually use it now).

In all, the new 7-series again ups the ante in its segment. Whether it will sell as well as the previous generation remains to be seen.

Herbie

Posted by admin

As a little child, one often wonders how it would be like if he were to encounter a lively car and actually drive by with him with even just one ride home. Well, this won’t be much of a wonder for Lindsey Lohan in her movie about Herbie; her very much lively car; lively in a sense that it is alive and kicking! Well, one should not be that terrified. It is not one of Stephen King’s cars in his Maximum Overdrive, where the cars go nuts and starts their revolution against their human masters.

Herbie is not an evil car that could drive everyone mad. Although it should be admitted that it is madness to see an actual car, driving on its own, minding its own business while its driver sits in the driver’s seat looking outside the window seemingly searching for some beautiful scenery as though she were seated at the passenger’s seat. No one really knows how Herbie got his life or how he managed to lived such a long life that he still came to see Lohan’s time. But though it is a mystery, it still does not rob the movie of its magnificent wonders that surrounds the car and his driver; in fact, it even gives the film a sting.
